Imagine a picture of Faf de Klerk here wearing his medal and pants........(could not load the picture to Pitchero)
The day started with the team gathering to watch an important game in England’s rugby history. It didn’t go as planned so we will quickly move on after this quote:"This game won’t change the whole of South Africa but it’s about giving people hope, it’s about uniting people. People will be loving it and we’ll be celebrating for a while”. Faf de Klerk (real eye candy)The important match of the day: Sonning Hockey Club L1s vs West Hampstead L1s The mood was high (not) and the team had a very strong warm up (not). The ladies’ minds were still thinking of Faf de Klerk, how could they not? Under some heavy rain, West Hampstead came out strong and scored two consecutive goals. Wendy was hit on the leg and Rita on the hand. There were no aerials. As the mood was low amongst the brits, Erica brought the aussie energy to put not just one, but two goals in. Please picture the most spectacular of goals you have ever seen scored, they were a bit like that (not really, but no one seems to remember how she scored, as this report is late). Sadly, WH scored another one but to finish it off, our “wild card” Lucy Faulkner score another impressive goal as a rebound in a short corner. A game (or whole sports day) to be forgotten as a game that should have been easily won, was disturbed by destiny with the L1s drawing 3-3.
MoM: Lucy for her goal and demonstration of “sonningness” by turning up at the last minute due to Red’s shoulder injury
Muff: I can’t really remember, but the funniest thing of the day was Emily’s attempt to speaking Japanese/Irish/Welsh/Italian and they all sounding exactly the same. Thanks for the comedy.
Note: it has been noted that Sonning L1s do not perform at their best following team dinners/pasta nights on a Friday. Maipo Wan was going to look at the stats and see if there is a correlation with results
Captains note - Muff was the writer of this fine account of the game due to her keen-ness to score a goal, albeit in the wrong end!!
