What better way than to kick off the season by playing our local rivals Reading on a hot and sunny morning. A great game was played by both teams, Reading getting the first goal of the game, half way through the first period. Sonning very quickly equalised, with Vicky Smith sweetly slipping the ball past the post, after receiving a great ball from Amy Shaw.
Sonning took control of the first half, playing their own game, passing perfectly and using the entire pitch to navigate the ball, placing pressure on their opponents. After a quick half time break, we were set for the second half. We played the Sonning way, building on our superb first half, threatening to score, passing the ball beautifully between players.
The sun was shining and everyone was feeling the early autumn heat. With no subs and a bad clearance, a short corner was favoured for Reading, resulting in a goal. 2-1 to Reading, a disappointing score but a great game. Every Sonning player gave 100% throughout, they persevered and played a beautiful game of hockey, which made everyone proud to be part of the team.
Sophie Greenway was voted as woman of the match for her hard work and great team play. No muff this week, as we all played like super stars. Well done Ladies 4's.
