After 5 games we have lost 2, drawn 2 and now won our first game. Sonning 4's are most definitely moving in the right direction....up the table :-)
First whistle and Sonning was all over Windsor 2's. Our opponents spent the first 10mins defending Sonning's pressing attack, struggling to keep the yellows at bay. 10mins in and 1-0 to Sonning from a fabulous goal by Sarah Wrighton. Sarah stepped up from the 5's this week, for her first game with Sonning 4's. What a entrance it was....with a cracking goal.
Minutes later a second goal was produced by Sonning. Ellie Aries, stepped up and pushed the team in to a 2-0 lead, with another beautiful goal. A huge roar of celebrations echoed across the pitch, Windsor panicked, there heads were down and Sonning was full of confidence. Maybe a bit too confident, as we sat back and enjoyed the score line, Windsor picked their heads up and drove straight through the defence. Goal for Windsor. In a state of shock, Windsor took full advantage and once again drove a second ball straight through the middle. A cracking shot from the top of the D and a second goal for Windsor.
Half time whistle.....and Sonning quickly headed to the goal for a team talk. Main issues......we had allowed ourselves to play Windsor's game and sat back. Second half....play the Sonning way, use our strengths to win this game.
Second half started and Sonning took control, we played the Sonning way by using the pitch to sweetly pass the ball, play in to space and pressurise Windsor, giving them little room to attack. 10mins left of the game and Sonning were pressing, looking dangerous at every pass. Shorts were awarded but goals were missing. We were persistent, we wanted the win, we played like a team and our efforts were rewarded with another sweet goal from Ellie Aries. 3-2 to Sonning.
With less than 10mins left of the game, Sonning defended with their lives, pressed hard and took control of the ball. The whistle blew, sticks to the ground, arms in the air....we won! We celebrated as a team, our first win of the season.
Three cheers for Windsor as they were competitive.
Woman of the match; Ellie Aries for 2 great goals.
Muff of the match; Louise for forgetting the yellow shirts and having to dash across Reading!
Newbies; Sarah Wrighton and Linda Third, they both stepped up from the 5's this week and both had a great game. Well done.
Overall; a great team effort, everyone worked hard and showed commitment. First win of many we hope.
