Did somebody order rain? Maybe we should have bought our paddles instead of hockey sticks.
So, with a very wet and slippery pitch, Sonning were away to South Berks at 3pm.
The game started ok, a little disorganised but straight away on the attack. Very quickly we looked dangerous in the D and Elodie scored a cracking goal. 0-1 to Sonning.....we couldn't believe it.
South Berks were straight back at us. They took full advantage of our poor press and they were off on the attack. Ball to the foot and short for South Berks. 1-1!
Heads up and straight back in to the game, Sonning looked dangerous again, placing pressure on their defence. Our press was split, too many gaps. South Berks took full advantage of another break and caught us out of position. They took a beautiful shot at goal which was deflected by a Sonning stick....own goal......we couldn't believe it. 2-1 to South Berks. Whistle blew and a well deserved break was up.
A quick team chat with a new focus and the will to win, we were back on the pitch.
The second half was dominated by Sonning. Tori made some excellent saves through out the game and kept South Berks at bay.
We played high, pressed hard and used the baseline to our full advantage. the D was ours and Gemma scored a equaliser. 2-2 to Sonning, the game was back on.
With a further 2 goals from Elodie (again) and Sarah C-A, Sonning pulled back a beautiful win 2-4, away.
Now 6th in the table, Sonning Ladies 4's are on the up and full of confidence.
Player of the match, Emily White, well done.
Muff of the match, Julie for a beautiful backwards slip.
Special thanks to all of the players, everyone worked hard to achieve a great win.
Other thanks go to Vicky for supporting the team and managing our sub, we hope to see her back on the pitch soon.
