SL4's get the win they needed after two losses in a row.
The past few weeks have been tough games, playing the top of our division. With a even matched game ahead of us, we were determined to walk away with points. Pheonix and Raleigh 3's are a young developing team, full of speed with youth on their side.
SL4's came with experience and a couple of young legs, which most definitely helped us succeed.
The first half was fast paced with SL4's dominating throughout. Our guest GK, Sophia James, had a lovely rest during this period, watching the game from the back, directing the team. The first half was predominately played in our attacking half, pressurising P&R and winning short corners. After 4 shorts in a row, Lisa Meadows slipped the ball past the keeper, 1-0 to Sonning. The crowd cheered and players jumped with joy....a goal....finally!
Quick celebration at half time, coupled with a handful of Haribo, we were ready for the 2nd half. This half was more relaxed, but P&R were back on form, pressurising Sonning, utilising their younger players down the wing. Quick plan of action to cut out the speedy players down the wing and Sonning were back in control.
This half Sophia earned her GK status and made some cracking saves, after P&R caught Sonning on a couple counter attacks. Last 10mins and SL4's looked dangerous, taking full advantage of those now tired legs and pressing them in their defensive half. We were on the attack again, passing the ball beautifully around the pitch. But with time against us, the whistle blew and no further goals.
But we did win...finally.....a goal! Well done to Linda and Badger for being voted women of the match. It was Badgers last game this season :-( and Linda's first game as a forward (she played very well). Well done Lisa for the smashing goal and thank you Sophia for getting us moving on that pitch.
