SL4's met OL6's (who were top of the division) at home for what we thought would be a challenging game. OL6's had won both of their previous games, 6-0 and 3-0, so SL4's had two objectives, defend as a unit and attack with passion.
OL6's were a young team and had the ability to quickly move the ball up the pitch, testing our midfield from the start. There, press was tight and they showed strength as a team, but SL4's quickly realised they had the upper hand and were dominating the game.
Within the 1st half we scored a great goal and threatened Oxford throughout. Moving up the pitch as a unit, utilising the wings and showing great skill on the ball.
A quick half time break with oranges and a plan to tighten up our midfield formation and press high up the pitch, we were off. Quickly another two goals followed, we were pressurising Oxford, forcing their mistakes, showing them that this was our pitch and we were here to win.
Oxford found a foot in the D.....took full advantage and scored a cracking goal, keeper and defence beaten.
A quick reminder from the captain....."play the Sonning game"....we soon showed Oxford that luck had no place on this pitch and we followed it with our 4th goal.
A 4-1 win to SL4's....three wins in a row and a well deserved position at the top of the league......
SL4's showed heart and passion for the win, Oxford thanked us for a great game and gave special comment to the team for their well drilled team play.
Goal scorers this week were, Sarah Campbell Atkins x 2 goals, Isobella Marino x1 and Ellie Aries x1.
Player of the match goes to Emma Fishwick.
Stick of the day goes to......Emma Fishwick :-)
A special welcome to Honor Hargreaves and Erica Wong. Both played their first 4's game brilliantly.
