Welfare On and Off the Pitch at Sonning HC

Welfare On and Off the Pitch at Sonning HC

Patrick Wall24 Sep - 09:28

As the 2024/25 season gets underway, we wanted to highlight the commitments made by Sonning and England Hockey for welfare.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing at Sonning

The well-being and safety of every Sonning Hockey Club player is our priority. Our club aims to be an inclusive, family-oriented and enjoyable place for all our members and visitors.

Your Welfare Officer for 2024 - 2025 is Sophia ‘Phi’ James, you can find her information on the contact page.

Our commitment as Club Committee, Coaches and Captains
Safety is everyone’s responsibility, however, all our coaches, captains and club volunteers are fully DBS checked. They have also undertaken safeguarding training approved by England Hockey.

All post-holders will be aware of the Safeguarding Reporting Procedures and will liaise with the Welfare Officer in the unlikely case of any issues.

Health and Safety is key and everyone involved in running sessions has completed the latest Safe Hockey training. You can use this page to download EH's Concussion Policy which we follow.

Support for Young People
We have an exceptional youth section who are encouraged to progress into adult sport in a friendly environment. We have adopted England Hockey’s Good Practice Guide for Young People and regularly update knowledge and training.

We are big on social media as a club, however, we recognise that some prefer a more private approach and hence, photo consent is checked during registration.

If any parents or carers have concerns, please get in touch with the Welfare Officer.

Adults at Risk
We recognise that from time to time, adult members will need some extra support. You can find advice for Adults at Risk here and speak to the Welfare Officer with any concerns.. Our Club also has new member liaisons, club captains and captains for individual teams so please look at the contact page for more information.

SHC Family
We consider our family everyone involved with Sonning and we would remind all members and visitors to behave in line with our values.

Hockey is for everyone and equality is important to us. You can read more about inclusion in hockey. Finally, here’s guidance on good practice safeguarding.
